Terrible management. I can't even comment on the food as we didn't get the chance to eat anything. Our reservations were in August, which I know is a busy time in the Northwoods. We also had a party of 8 which I also understand is larger than normal. We waited for over an hour for food. We had been talking and hadn't really noticed the wait, but once we did, we flagged our waitress who honestly did the best she could and we appreciated the effort she made to help us out. We waited an additional 30 mins and received nothing. People all around us were getting served food--mainly people who had arrived well after us. We asked for the manager, who refused to apologize and cited that the kitchen "was slammed." We were extremely kind and understanding, but after about 2 hours we finally were forced to get up and leave as we received no updates on our food or indication there was concern at all over our wait. Again, I'd like to say that our waitress was great under the circumstances. We are reasonable people, but the unapologetic nature of the management left us was a poor taste in our mouth. Eventually, we payed for the couple of salads and drinks we had been served and and headed over to Alexander's for pizza. Unless there is a management change, I wouldn't be heading back there anytime soon.

What's nice about this restaurant is you have the option of ordering an expensive meal or a mid priced meal. The bar is casual and has a less expensive pub menu; whereas, the restaurant is formal and has an expensive menu. On the pub menu I recommend the pizza and french onion soup. On the expensive menu I recommend the chicken in a pastry. The expensive menu has a few original items, but both menus are lacking in providing a world class entree. The wine list and cocktail selections are extensive. The decor is a little generic but satisfactory overall.

We go here with our family every year and it is an enjoyable time. With us is our cousin, who is in a wheel chair and they are always very accommodating. This is not your usual Northwoods supper club. It is mid to high scale dining with an outstanding wine list. The food I've always had was good and the service was friendly and helpful. We go back every year and will continue to do so. Overall, good place to go with a large group, great wine selection and a good fine dining experience.

We were pleasantly surprised with Riverstone. The selections at the restaurant were so much better than I would expect in a small town. The was also a wonderful outdoor patio. We really enjoyed the multi-grain flax seed bread and the house grape oil. My walleye with wild rice was also very tasty. We would definitely dine there again next time we are in the area.

Omg, how has this place stayed in business. I called ahead because my mom recently had knee replacement and was using a walker. What a disaster. It took forever just to get the attention of anyone for help once we got there. Even after getting in the place we waited at the host stand for about 25 minutes along with several others. It was crazy how they literally ignored us all. It wasn't even that busy. We ended up walking out. The waitresses seemed embarrassed. Shame on them. The food did not look impressive anyway. Good news is we discovered White Pines down the street. Awesome

I'm giving it three stars because the service is too slow. The price is slightly high given the food quality as well.

Riverstone is a total gem. It used to be less than wonderful, but a couple years ago they totally revamped their menu and its fabulous now! Great drinks! The butternut squash ravioli is AMAZING!!!! The owner, Ron, is always there and is such a nice guy. It's wonderful that we can have a nicer meal or decide to sit in the bar area and watch sports! Great outdoor deck too.

Probably one of the more expensive places in town but the food is worth it if you are looking for something special. Cheese plate is a must for is and the wine flights are also a good choice. Menu is diverse and I have never ordered anything I regretted.

I've been coming to Eagle River for years and the restaurants around the area understandably reflect the laid back, woodsy, up north attitude that is so common in the North Woods. I have driven by Riverstone so many times thinking to myself "nah, just an overpriced attempt at fine dining in the North Woods, not possible". People kept saying it wasn't worth the money. So then one fine evening with a couple of friends...had to go in and find out for myself. Delicious. The atmosphere was great...and when you're not 3 feet deep in snow or rained out by a massive thunderstorm or simply frozen as a block of ice... the summers on the porch can offer a great dinner next to the river. The food was plentiful and not as overpriced as I would have thought; I tried several items on the menu (mostly by stealing off my friends' plates) and I think of the tastiest was the Wellington.. beef or pork, can't remember, but it was so good. Good selection of wines and beers and some mixed drinks and the deserts were awesome to finish the night. Don't shy away from this place... I'm glad I didn't

After a decent experience the year before, we decided to return to Riverstone the next year. We come up from Chicago every year for Eagle River's pond hockey tournament. We had called in ahead asking if they can accommodate 20 people. The woman on the phone said that should be fine, giving us two tables of ten! Not a problem, this was excellent news for us! As we walked into the restaurant, they were NOT READY FOR US. We waited a half hour for ONE TABLE, then another half hour for the other table. That's not even the worst part. Here's the thing, the waitress took our order immediately, and another half hour later our 2nd table had ordered. Perfect. Well...... Not really. This was the only time we had seen our waitress within an hour and half. Every time we had to walk up to the bar in the other room for WATER!! This was unacceptable. Finally, we found some random waitress and asked where our food was. All she said was how busy it was. Well... Wouldn't you know the 2nd table of our company was served their food first, even though they ordered a half hour later. We have had enough... We asked for the manager. The actual owner came to our table not even giving us a chance to talk. He kept telling us, "this is not mcdonalds" which we didn't really understand. The waitress came over afterward and as we confronted her, she was extremely rude and ignorant. Finally, after a total of 2 hours after ordering (which I'm surprised we decided to stay) our food came. It was bland and terrible. Our burgers we ordered were rock hard, which makes sense because our waitress didn't even ask how we wanted it cooked! As we asked for the owner yet again, he proceeded to come back to us and continue to not let us talk. The management continued to not listen to us, yell at us, and we walked out. We would recommend everyone to stay away from this place from Monday through Sunday, if you have more than 2 people with you, and if you want a decent meal! Trust me, you will not miss anything. The owner was right, his restaurant isn't McDonalds, because Mcdonalds has nicer staff and better burgers! I would rather go to Alexander's Pizza in Eagle River ..... You'd at least get service and some pretty good pie.

Big-city fine dining tucked away in the Northwoods. There's a pub menu and a fine dining menu (as well as patio) and all are great. Customer service is perfect. Waitstaff are very attentive. The sunday brunch is a must. There is a ton of variety and something for everyone (even kids). Ambience is great. It's a must every time I am in Eagle River. If Riverstone isn't your scene check out Soda Pops in downtown Eagle River; which is owned by the same family but is more of an old fashioned soda shop and restaurant. Here's some recent awards Riverstone has received: Discover Wisconsin's Choice Destination Restaurant Pick for May 2008 "based on outstanding food, service, and atmosphere" Wine Enthusiast Magazine Award of Distinction 2006,2007,2008 "One of the most wine friendly restaurants in the Nation" Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence 2004,2005,2006,2007,2008 "One of the Best Restaurants in the World for Wine Lovers" Lake Superior Magazine Jan.2008." Vacationing in area and was a bit worried after good and bad reviews of this place. Our experience was outstanding, Gregor has to be one of the best servers I have ever had, the food was very very good. Many great wines to pick from, very nice decor. Very pleased with our meal here. Don't be put off by bad reviews...

This USED to be a good restaurant. Food has gone downhill. Service is mediocre. I have tried Riverstone Several times over the last couple of years hoping that they have straightened themselves out. Nope. Not even close. My husband ordered a risotto and you couldn't even discern there was rice in the dish. It resembled and tasted like baby food. When brought up to the waitress, she offered to have them remake the dish, but who wants to wait 30 minutes more? My dish was tasteless. I have learned. Three times you're out, Riverstone. A previous visit we were "ignored" at the bar while the bartenders served the locals. Until one of the locals refused to be served until they waited on me and my friends. I am up in the Eagle River area every weekend in the summer and at least once a month in the fall/winter. I think the owner needs to get his head out of his you know what and figure out where his money is coming from. I'm done.

We've heard alot about this place and were anxious to give it a try. We recently stopped in for a Friday night dinner and left happy customers. They start you off with some delicious bread and I added the River "Stone" soup (which I enjoyed). We all had the Friday Fish Fry (of course!). The cocktail menu was quite interesting so tried a Maple syrup sour (ok, I had a couple). I have a sweet tooth and I liked it alot but you average bear may only be able to handle one of these! There are still quite a few interesting things on the menu to try, so I will be be back!

We went to the Riverstone on a Thursday evening. We order 2 Prime Rib dinners, Prime Rib & Shrimp, and the 3 meat dinner dish. The 3 Meat dish was had no complaints. However, the Prime Rib dinners are another story! I ordered the Prime Rib & Shrimp, my cut of meat was not prime rib, it looked like rib-eye to all of us, It was maybe 1/4 inch thick. I have never seen prime rib that looked like this! Which was awful, when I tried cutting it my plate was moving about the table. It was not cooked to my order and was nothing but gristle! The other two Prime Rib were AWFUL! Its was like chewing an eraser, the one in the party had to go into the bathroom and throw up the bite that was caught in her throat! You chewed, chewed, and chewed, it was the worst meal I have ever had! I am not a complainer however at twenty-six to thirty dollars for one meal, you expect a good cut of meat and friendly service. The server was over the top, which was getting very irritating when you are sitting there for two hours waiting and not getting a good meal for top dollar prices! Waiting a long time for a great meal is one thing, but waiting for a long time and getting horrible meat, after asking the server how the Prime rib is, and getting the worst meat possible is completely why I am writing this review! Here is the kicker, the owner/manager, short, smaller framed Grey haired man with glasses, never one time came over to our table to say ANYTHING! OK, well we were paying customers, to your pompous Restaurant that served us the worst meal most of us have ever eaten. I hope that this review will save others from experiencing a frustrated meal and regret of wasting a chunk of money on a crappy meal!

I have been going to Riverstone for years and love it each time I go. Yes, this is far from my normal northwoods dining establishment (bars) but a nice place to take my wife to on a date night (like we did on our anniversary this year) or even go to a nice dinner with the WHOLE family (like last week). The wine selection is always great and the food is wonderful. I especially enjoy their pizza's (yes, I know I get pizza from a fine dining establishment) and onion soup and my wife loves the cheese board. Riverstone is great and the service is outstanding.

I had a "Monroe to Milwaukee" cheeseburger. The patty was of a similar quality as McDonalds but the pretzel bun, cheese, horseradish, apples, and fries were excellent. This place has a drink list with a number of (expensive: $5-6) beers that I had never heard of.

For me, fancy dining in the Northwoods generally means having mustard to go with my baloney sandwich... This place goes way beyond that, and is a perfect fine dining reward after a hard day in the grouse woods. You'll be greeted by artisan breads in their open kitchen immediately after you enter. They take their baking seriously and the bread is very, very good. They have a fantastic wine list. It's loaded with moderately priced, thoughtfully selected, popular wines; Seghesio Zinfandel, Chalone Pinot, etc. And I really appreciated their attempts to integrate local, Wisconsin foods into their menu. Rare, high quality Wisconsin cheeses were featured in several options. French onion soup was delicious. I enjoyed pork tenderloin that was perfectly prepared and actually tender- no small feat for a restaurant to pull off! My hunting buddy ordered veal served in puff pastry that looked fantastic. Food like this made me grateful I bothered to change out of my hunting clothes! Everything was seriously delicious, even by "big city" standards. It may not be exactly what I expect when I'm roughing it in the northwoods, but it's a fantastic restaurant; Eagle River has a real gourmet treat in the Riverstone Restaurant.

With its great location on the river in a cool old building, I wanted this place to be great. Unfortunately the server was inattentive and the fare fell well short. Bland dishes with too much salt and cream. The beer cheese soup had the consistency of wet cement.

I recently went to Riverstone with friends for the brunch buffet during a long Labor Day weekend trip. The eight of us were seated right away and had Paula as our server. Not only was she incredibly friendly and welcoming, but she took our made-to-order omelet and pasta orders quickly and efficiently. The food - the brunch buffet and the dessert buffet - was absolutely delicious and it was our best meal in Eagle River! If I ever go back, I will definitely visit this place again.

Very nice restaurant. Very classy, amazing wine menu and the food was very good. I know many of the reviews talked about poor service but the host that seated us and our server were very friendly and attentive. If you're in the area and want something a little classier this is the place.

Totally overrated. The drinks were fine but the bartender could not identify Irish whiskey from American. The server had no interest in us, especially as we watched the other servers graciously attend nearby tables. He practically dumped our food at the table and walked away before we could even ask for anything else. The wine flight had four terrible choices and he never offered to replace any of them. When our food finally arrived my butternut squash ravioli with Wisconsin blue cheese and walnuts came swimming in a soup-like sauce with no walnuts. Ten minutes later when the waiter returned he asked how it was and I told him. He offered to bring another dish but we had waited so long it was not worth another wait. He then brought the same dish another customer ordered to show me that hers looked similar. We asked for the check and he had not removed my dish from the ticket. The owner then processed our bill, never asking how our evening went, and mentioned being overwhelmed by the "camp families" that made it so busy. I said "lucky you for such a busy evening" and he made it very clear he did not feel fortunate at all. Can't wait to let other camp parents know they are not appreciated at RiverStone.

There are very few options for upscale dining and this is not one I would recommend. Food is over priced and not that great. Bland and steaks are tough and without flavor. Service is so-so.

We had our "last night at camp" celebratory dinner here this past weekend. We had seen great food reviews, so thought this would be a good way to say goodbye to Eagle River. Most of our dinners were great. Our service started out somewhat poorly, on an uncrowded evening- I think our waitress was somewhat new, as she didn't have great answers to our questions. She took our drink order and disappeared, and took her time to come back and take our dinner order, although she seemed busy with her 2 other tables (but the other waiters seemed less stressed with more tables). Once our dinner order was placed, service got much better, and it felt like we got more attention. Two of our party had the Walleye, that they raved about. They also loved the Wisconsin wild rice. Two of our party had the stir fry - the chicken version was cooked with teriyaki that was not to anybody's liking. The shrimp version was much better, especially since it was ordered w/o garlic, and was still tasty. The pork tenderloin was okay (a little dry) but the accompanying butternut squash ravioli with apple cream sauce was phenomenal! The final dinner was beef with a cheese sauce and wine sauce split in the middle - more raves! Final blueberry cheesecake was sublime. So our rough start ended well!j

Summer, winter, spring and fall, it's always good. If it is crowded get a glass of wine and chill ... worth a wait. Been going for years and has remained great. Owner is there, service impeccable.

Summer, winter, spring and fall, it's always good. If it is crowded get a glass of wine and chill ... worth a wait. Been going for years and has remained great. Owner is there, service impeccable.

Vacationing in area and was a bit worried after good and bad reviews of this place. Our experience was outstanding, Gregor has to be one of the best servers I have ever had, the food was very very good. Many great wines to pick from, very nice decor. Very pleased with our meal here. Don't be put off by bad reviews...
